THE EFFECT OF RESISTANCE BAND TRAINING ON THE SPEED OF SICKLE KICKS IN PENCAK SILAT EXTRACURRICULARS AT SMKS MUHAMMADIYAH 16 PON VILLAGE
Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effect of resistance band training on the speed of sickle kicks in extracurricular pencak silat participants at SMKS Muhammadiyah 16 Desa Pon. Using a one-group pretest-posttest experimental design, this study involved 25 participants selected through a purposive sampling technique. The intervention in the form of a resistance band training program was carried out for 8 weeks with a frequency of 3 times per week. The speed of sickle kicks was measured using standard tests before and after the intervention. Data analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired t-test. The results showed a significant increase in sickle kick speed, with a pretest average of 15.12 (SD=2.007) increasing to 19.32 (SD=2.212) in the posttest (t(24)=- 16.689, p<0.001). The average increase of 4.2 kicks (27.8%) demonstrated the substantial effectiveness of the training program. The strong correlation between pretest and posttest scores (r=0.826, p<0.001) indicated consistent performance improvement across different initial ability levels. These findings suggest that resistance band training significantly improves sickle kick speed in pencak silat athletes, with important implications for developing training programs and improving competitive performance. Further research is recommended to explore the long-term effects and optimize training protocols.
