Abstract

Literary works comprise an expressive textual type whose dimensions are aesthetic, in which the author expresses his words and thoughts in a creative and artistic ways. In a translation, the literary text must convey this aesthetic form. Thus, the translation of literary works means changing, reducing, or supplementing the original in order to translate the translated work appropriately into the target language of the text. The text "Frauen am Rande der See" is the translation of the opera drama " Perempuan di Pinggir Danau”. The text “Frauen am Rande der See” is a story that also addresses nature in particular. Therefore, there are many expressions that present  the effect of beauty through the means of personification and artistically describe the atmosphere. The aim of this study is to cover the translation of the personification of Bsu/SL  (Indonesian) into Bsa/ TL (German)  in the drama. Other, the used translation strategies into Bsa is discussed. Based on the analysis, the personification is translated by two approaches, which are appropriate without change, and the context of meaning is adapted by applying transposition and modulation strategies. In particular, when translating literary texts, grammatical adjustments, additional information and explanations are used to provide an adequate translation and to take into the beauty of the written language.
