Contribution Of Hardiness In Reducing Academic Burnout In Students

Abstract


This study aims to determine the relationship between academic burnout and hardiness in students at X Islamic Boarding School. There is a phenomenon that students face challenges in the form of excessive workload and tasks, which can hinder and interfere with achieving educational goals in pesantren. This condition is often referred to as academic burnout, which is a physical, emotional, and mental condition experienced by students due to chronic stress related to academic demands. This study involved 180 MA Pondok Pesantren X students as respondents, with the following criteria: (1) students live in Pondok Pesantren X, (2) students actively participate in formal education at Madrasah Aliyah X, and (3) have served as room leader. The study used an academic burnout scale adapted from Fatimah (2022) and a hardiness scale adapted from Rahmi (2019). The data analysis technique used was the Spearman non-parametric correlation test. The results showed a significant negative relationship between hardiness and academic burnout in students, with a correlation coefficient of -0.387. This means that the higher the hardiness of the students, the lower the academic burnout experienced. This study enriches the literature on academic burnout and hardiness in the context of pesantren education, which is still limited. These findings can be used as a basis for developing intervention programs to increase hardiness and prevent academic burnout in santri.
