THE MEANING OF BATIK MOTIFS IN THE TANDO PUSAKO BATIK HOUSE IN MUKOMUKO REGENCY
Abstract
Rumah Batik Tando Pusako is a venture in the field of batik craftsmanship located in Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province. Batik Tando Pusako, in terms of its name, motif forms, and the meanings of these motifs, is still unfamiliar to many people due to insufficient information about their meanings. Therefore, this research aims to describe a study on the meanings of Batik Tando Pusako motifs. This study employs a qualitative method, with primary and secondary data sources obtained from observations, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model, involving data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings reveal various meanings behind the batik motifs: 1) Cerano symbolizes respect; 2) Ikan Mikih signifies gratitude; 3) Lokan advises on mutual assistance in social life; 4) Pohon Sawit represents prosperity and material abundance; 5) Bunga Rafflesia symbolizes fertility of the earth; 6) Tanaman Bakau signifies perseverance in facing life's challenges and changes; and 7) Basurek (Arabic Calligraphy) represents religious meanings.
