EFEKTIFITAS MODEL PROBLEM BASED LEARNING TERHADAP PENGUASAAN KONSEP MAHASISWA PADA KONSEP SUHU DAN KALOR
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The research purposed to see the effectivity of the apllication of problem based learning (PBL) model to student mastery physics concepts of temperature and heat. The research population are all of physics students in first semester in one of university in Medan of academic year 2013/2014 of General Physics I. The research sample of two classes consists of 47 students in experiment class that using problem based learning model and 50 students in control class that using conventional model. The sampling based on random cluster sampling technique. Research method were used quasi-experiment with randomized control group pretest-postest design.The data of mastery concept collected with 20 items of multiple choice. The effectivity of learning model assessed based on comparing the average normalized gain value between experiment and control class. The result showed that an application of problem based learning model on temperature and heat topics significantly more effective to improve mastery of concepts and it is medium category.

ABSTRAK
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat efektifitas penerapan model problem based learning (PBL) terhadap pengusaan konsep fisika mahasiswa pada materi Suhu dan Kalor. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa calon guru matematika semester I pada salah satu perguruan tinggi di Medan tahun akademik 2013/2014 pada matakuliah Fisika Umum I. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas, yang terdiri dari 47 mahasiswa kelompok eksperimen yang menerapkan model problem based learning dan 50 mahasiswa kelompok kontrol yang menerapkan model konvensional. Pengambilan sampel berdasarkan teknik cluster random sampling. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah eksperimen kuasi dengan desain randomized control group pretest-postest. Data pengusaan konsep dikumpulkan dengan 20 butir tes berbentuk pilihan berganda. Efektifitas model pembelajaran dinilai berdasarkan perbandingan rata-rata nilai gain yang dinormalisasi antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan model problem based learning pada materi Suhu dan Kalor secara signifikan dapat lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan berada pada kategori sedang.
