About the Journal
UNIMED Law Review is an academic journal published by the Business Law Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences, Medan State University. The journal is published twice a year, in May and November. UNIMED Law Review is an open access, double peer-reviewed journal that aims to offer an international scientific platform for cross-border legal research. The journal covers a wide range of topics in law, including but not limited to constitutional law, administrative law, civil law, criminal law, Islamic law, human rights law, customary law, business law, international law, tax law, agrarian law, cyber law, environmental law, humanitarian law, economic law, intellectual property law (IPR), arbitration law, and other related contemporary issues in legal studies.
The materials published include major academic papers that critically examine various aspects and fields of law, as well as shorter papers such as book reviews and notes on recent legal issues. The goal of UNIMED Law Review is to disseminate high-quality research to a wide audience.
The journal sets specific topics to be covered in each issue, which can be analyzed from various legal perspectives as mentioned. However, it also accommodates articles on general topics in each issue.
Peer Review Process
The review process for UNIMED Law Review involves two stages: first, the submitted article will be reviewed by the editors to ensure that it aligns with the edition’s theme and submission guidelines. Articles that meet the requirements will be forwarded to reviewers who have expertise in the article’s topic. UNIMED Law Review uses a double-blind peer-review system, where the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept confidential. The final decision regarding the acceptance of the article is made by the editor based on the reviewers' comments and recommendations.
The steps involved are as follows:

Manuscript Submission (by the author)

Manuscript Check and Selection (by the editors). Editors have the right to directly accept, reject, or request a review based on the standards set by UNIMED Law Review. Before further processing, plagiarism check using Turnitin is applied to the manuscript.

Manuscript Review Process (by reviewers)

Notification of Manuscript Acceptance, Revision, or Rejection (by editor to author based on reviewers’ comments)

Manuscript Revision (by the author)

If the editor is satisfied with the revision, the article is accepted and undergoes editing and proofreading.

Publication Process (by the editor)
The most common decisions in the peer-review process include:

Accepted as is. The journal will publish the paper in its original form;

Accepted with Minor Revisions, the journal will publish the paper and asks the author to make small corrections (let authors revised with stipulated time);

Accepted with Major Revisions, the journal will publish the paper provided the authors make the changes suggested by the reviewers and/or editors (let authors revised with stipulated time);

Resubmission (conditional rejection), the journal is willing to reconsider the paper in another round of decision making after the authors make major changes;

Rejected (outright rejection), the journal will not publish the paper or reconsider it even if the authors make major revisions.

UNIMED Law Review is published twice a year, in May and November.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content based on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports greater global knowledge exchange.
License and Copyright Policy
UNIMED Law Review holds the copyright for each article published. All published articles are simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY NC), which allows others to share the work with appropriate attribution to the authors and the original publication in this journal.
Archiving
This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and allows these libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.
Article Processing Charges (APCs)
UNIMED Law Review accepts article submissions without imposing any article processing charges (APCs). Authors are not required to pay any fees during the submission process, including fees for the processing of accepted articles.
Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism and self-plagiarism are not allowed. Authors must ensure that their submitted works are entirely original, and if they have used the work of others, it must be properly cited or quoted. Articles submitted must not have been published elsewhere or be under consideration for publication by another journal. Any manuscript found to have more than 20% plagiarism will be automatically rejected.
Plagiarism checking is performed by the editorial team using Turnitin. If any indication of plagiarism is found, the manuscript will be immediately rejected.
