Analisis Operasi Bilangan Pada Pembelajaran Matematika Kelas IV Di SDS HKBP Maranatha Medan

Mathematics is a crucial subject for fostering students' logical thinking skills and systematic mindset, particularly in elementary school. One fundamental topic essential for mastering higher-level mathematics is numerical operations. However, many students still struggle to understand and apply the basic concepts of number operations, especially multiplication and division, particularly in the context of word problems. Based on this phenomenon, this research aims to analyze the learning of number operations in mathematics for fourth-grade students at HKBP Maranatha Private Elementary School in Medan. This study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques including interviews with teachers, tests for students, and direct classroom observations. The results of the research indicate that students experience difficulties in understanding the basic concepts of number operations, especially division and multiplication in the context of word problems. The main causes of these difficulties are the predominantly traditional and less contextual teaching methods, as well as the infrequent use of manipulative learning media. This research suggests the use of a contextual approach based on local wisdom and concrete media to help students better understand the concepts of number operations.References
