AN ALTERNATIVE EXPLORATION OF CANTING CAP WITH LIDI MATERIAL IN CONTEMPORARY BATIK MAKING
Abstract
Batik is one of the archipelago's heritage that has high artistic value. This research was conducted to provide new innovations regarding the tools used in the process of making contemporary batik. There have been several innovations in batik making tools such as the use of sticks as a substitute for canting tulis. Based on this, an opportunity was found to utilise sticks as an alternative to canting cap tools in making contemporary batik because the material is easily available and the costs incurred are not as large as copper canting cap. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through literature study, observation, interviews, and exploration. The result of this research is to provide an alternative tool to replace canting cap made of stick material and cloth sheets from the exploration of contemporary batik motifs using tools.
