Abstract: This study aims to synthesize the literature on the impact of digital technology use on the cognitive development of elementary school-aged children, identifying trends, benefits, challenges, and research gaps. Employing a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study analyzed 30 scholarly articles from Scopus and Google Scholar databases published between 2022-2026. The analysis reveals that digital technology significantly enhances cognitive abilities such as logical thinking, problem-solving, working memory, information processing speed, as well as language literacy and fine motor skills. The stable increase in research volume since 2022, with surges in 2025 (9 articles) and 2026 (9 articles), indicates growing academic interest. However, the study also identifies risks such as decreased attention span, gadget dependency, and potential behavioral, social, and emotional problems, especially without adequate supervision. Enabling factors like teachers' digital literacy, parental guidance, and innovative learning strategies (e.g., gamification and computational thinking) are crucial for optimizing positive impacts. This study extends the understanding of how digital interaction mechanisms influence children's cognitive functions and behavior, while highlighting the need for longitudinal studies, cross-socioeconomic comparisons, and the exploration of AI/ML roles. The implications underscore the importance of balanced and responsible digital technology use to maximize children's cognitive developmental potential.
