Journal History

The story of Altruistik: Jurnal Konseling dan Psikologi Pendidikan is a journey of vision, resilience, and commitment to academic service. It began in June 2021, when the first issue, Volume 1 Number 1, was published. This moment was more than just the release of a journal—it was the birth of a scholarly platform designed to cultivate critical perspectives in Guidance and Counseling as well as Educational Psychology. From its very name, Altruistik carried the spirit of “altruism,” a dedication to helping others through knowledge and scholarship.

The early days were filled with enthusiasm. In its very first month, Altruistik achieved milestones that gave it a strong foundation: the journal was indexed by Google Scholar and joined the Crossref community, securing a DOI prefix (10.2411) to ensure the global traceability of every article. Later that year, the journal refined its template to improve quality and readability, signaling its growing professionalism.

In June 2022, Altruistik entered a new chapter through collaboration with the Indonesian Guidance and Counseling Association (ABKIN). This partnership brought the journal into a wider academic conversation, strengthening its network and recognition among national scholars. Two years later, in November 2024, the journal received official accreditation as a Sinta 4 journal from the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia—an acknowledgement of its commitment to scholarly standards and contribution to the advancement of knowledge.

Yet, the journey was not without storms. Between late 2024 and mid-2025, Altruistik faced one of its most challenging periods. A series of massive cyberattacks from online gambling hackers struck the system, forcing the team to migrate from OJS 2 to OJS 3. The transition came with heavy consequences: delays in publication, disruption of article histories, and even the loss of several issues spanning from Volume 3 Number 1 (2023) to Volume 4 Number 2 (2024). With limited backups, the editorial team had to painstakingly reconstruct and re-upload content manually, an arduous process that tested their perseverance.

Despite these trials, the spirit of altruism never wavered. By June–July 2025, the journal proudly released Volume 5 Number 1, a symbol of recovery and resilience. Though technical challenges persisted and occasional hacker attacks disrupted the website and indexing processes, the team’s determination remained firm: to keep the journal alive as a vessel of knowledge, service, and academic dialogue.

Today, the history of Altruistik stands not merely as a timeline of achievements and setbacks, but as a living testimony to endurance, collaboration, and unwavering faith in the altruistic mission of scholarly publishing—serving knowledge, nurturing truth, and uplifting others.
