Abstract

A spatial and temporal analysis of the driving factors of land use dynamics is a mechanism for achieving sustainable land management. However, the majority of driving factor analysis studies are conducted on medium to low scale maps and only consider a limited number of factors. The objective of this study is to analyse the driving factors of land use dynamics using more detailed data and more comprehensive variables around the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) area, Indonesia. The land use map was created by visual interpretation of Pleiades imagery from 2014, 2018, and 2022, and the driving factors consist of aspects such as physical, location, socio-economic, land policy, and land right. The accuracy of land use was determined through the implementation of a confusion matrix, while driving factor analysis was conducted via spatial regression. The results demonstrated an increase in built-up land from 2014 to 2018, encompassing an area of 79.02 hectares, while from 2018 to 2022, it covered an area of 615.14 hectares. The factors that exert a significant influence on the location aspect include industry, distance to the city, distance to the airport, and road accessibility. Social factors comprise the occupation of the population, physical factors: relative relief, and land policy and land rights. The latter include protected areas and land rights status. The present study offers a comprehensive understanding of the drivers of land use dynamics in terms of its spatial and temporal dimensions, as a basis for formulating land use planning and control policies. Policies grounded in rigorous research are expected to facilitate sustainable land use and utilisation
