Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process

Jurnal Seni Rupa Universitas Negeri Medan applies a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of all published articles. The journal adopts a double-blind peer review policy, in which the identity of authors and reviewers is kept confidential throughout the review process.

1. Initial Screening

  • All submitted manuscripts are first screened by the Editorial Office for compliance with journal scope, formatting guidelines, and plagiarism checks using similarity detection software.

  • Manuscripts failing to meet basic requirements or showing high similarity scores will be rejected without review.

2. Assignment to Editors

  • Eligible manuscripts are assigned to a Section Editor or Associate Editor based on expertise in the relevant field of fine arts or performing arts.

  • The handling editor evaluates the manuscript’s relevance, novelty, and academic contribution before proceeding to peer review.

3. Double-Blind Peer Review

  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant area.

  • Both authors and reviewers remain anonymous to ensure objectivity.

  • Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

    • Originality and contribution to the field

    • Theoretical framework and literature review

    • Research design and methodology (if applicable)

    • Quality of analysis and discussion

    • Clarity, coherence, and academic writing style

    • Compliance with ethical standards

4. Review Outcomes

Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, the editor will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision

  • Minor revision required (authors are given 1–2 weeks to revise)

  • Major revision required (authors are given 3–4 weeks to revise)

  • Reject (due to lack of originality, methodological flaws, or outside the journal’s scope)

5. Revision Process

  • Authors must submit a revised manuscript along with a response letter addressing reviewers’ comments point-by-point.

  • Revised manuscripts may be sent back to reviewers for re-evaluation, particularly in cases of major revisions.

6. Final Decision

  • The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief, based on reviewers’ recommendations and the quality of the revisions.

  • The decision is final and binding.

7. Copyediting and Proofreading

  • Accepted manuscripts undergo professional copyediting, layout, and proofreading to ensure clarity, formatting consistency, and accuracy before publication.

  • Authors are asked to approve the final proofs prior to online publication.

8. Publication

  • Articles are published in the online version of the journal according to the scheduled issue.

  • Published articles are made available under an open access policy with a Creative Commons license.
