Abstract

This research examines the potential for integrating traditional Indonesian batik motifs into mathematics learning at the elementary school level. Batik motifs that are rich in symmetrical patterns, such as kawung, parang, and mega mendung, offer concrete and aesthetic visual representations for teaching abstract mathematical concepts, including fold symmetry, rotational symmetry, translation, and reflection. By using a systematic literature review method, this research found that batik motif-based learning not only increases students' understanding of geometry and patterns, but also strengthens their appreciation of local culture. The use of batik motifs in learning helps students understand mathematics in a more relevant and interesting way, while also contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage. These findings recommend this approach as an innovative pedagogical strategy that connects mathematics with Indonesian cultural values, creating meaningful and contextual learning.
