Indonesia Sport Journal (ISJ)

1. General Information

Indonesia Sport Journal (ISJ) is a scientific journal dedicated to publishing original and significant scholarly contributions in sports science, physical education, sports coaching, sports performance, exercise physiology, sports biomechanics, sports psychology, sports management, physical activity and health, and related disciplines.

The journal welcomes manuscripts that contribute to the development of scientific knowledge, theory, research methodology, and professional practice in sports and physical education.

All submitted manuscripts must be original, scientifically sound, relevant to the journal's focus and scope, and prepared in accordance with these author guidelines.

2. Manuscript Categories

Indonesia Sport Journal accepts the following manuscript categories:

2.1. Original Research Articles

These articles report original empirical research using appropriate quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches. Experimental studies, observational studies, surveys, action research, and research and development studies may be considered when they demonstrate scientific rigor and relevance to the journal's scope.

2.2. Review Articles

These articles provide critical and systematic evaluations of existing literature. Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other rigorous literature reviews are welcome when they offer meaningful synthesis, identify research gaps, and contribute to future research and practice.

The suitability of a manuscript category is determined by the editorial team.

3. General Requirements for Submission

Authors must ensure that:

  1. The manuscript is original and has not been published previously, except where the journal explicitly permits a disclosed form of prior dissemination.

  2. The manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal.

  3. All authors have made appropriate contributions and have approved the final version.

  4. All sources, data, images, tables, and other materials from third parties are properly acknowledged and used with permission when required.

  5. All relevant funding sources and potential conflicts of interest are disclosed.

  6. Research involving human participants has received the required ethical approval and informed consent, where applicable.

  7. The manuscript follows the journal's publication ethics and research integrity policies.

  8. The corresponding author provides accurate contact information and is authorized to communicate with the journal on behalf of all authors.

4. Manuscript Preparation

4.1. Language

Manuscripts may be prepared in English or Indonesian, subject to the journal's current language requirements. The writing must be clear, accurate, consistent, and appropriate for academic publication.

4.2. Title

The title should be concise, informative, and representative of the manuscript's content. It should identify the main topic or research relationship without unnecessary abbreviations.

4.3. Author Information

The manuscript must include the full names of all authors, institutional affiliations, and email addresses. The corresponding author must be clearly identified. Academic degrees should not be included in the author byline unless specifically required by the journal's template.

4.4. Abstract

The abstract should contain no more than 250 words and briefly present the research problem or background, objective, methods, principal findings, conclusion, and significance of the study. Authors should avoid citations and undefined abbreviations in the abstract.

4.5. Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords that represent the main concepts of the article. Keywords should be specific, searchable, and complementary to the title.

5. Manuscript Structure

Original research articles should generally follow this structure:

  1. Introduction: Explain the research background, relevant literature, research gap, rationale, objectives, and research questions or hypotheses.

  2. Methods: Describe the research design, participants or data sources, instruments, procedures, ethical considerations, and data analysis techniques in sufficient detail to support evaluation and replication.

  3. Results: Present the findings clearly and systematically, using text, tables, or figures as appropriate.

  4. Discussion: Interpret the findings, compare them with previous research, explain their theoretical and practical implications, and acknowledge study limitations.

  5. Conclusion: Summarize the main findings and contributions without introducing new results. Recommendations may be included when supported by the findings.

  6. Acknowledgments: Recognize contributions that do not qualify for authorship, funding, or other relevant assistance, where applicable.

  7. Funding and Conflict of Interest Statements: Provide disclosures where applicable.

  8. References: List all sources cited in the manuscript.

Review articles may use a structure appropriate to their review methodology, including explicit search strategies, selection criteria, and synthesis methods where applicable.

6. Research Methods and Ethical Requirements

Methods must be described transparently and accurately. Authors should report sufficient information about participants, sample size, instruments, procedures, statistical analyses, qualitative analysis, and other methodological decisions relevant to the study.

For research involving human participants, authors must report relevant ethical approval and informed consent procedures, where required. Studies involving athletes, children, patients, or other potentially vulnerable participants must follow applicable ethical and legal requirements.

Clinical trials and other registered studies should include their registration details when applicable. Authors must not fabricate, falsify, or selectively misrepresent research data.

7. Tables, Figures, and Images

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively and referred to in the manuscript text. Each table must have a clear title, and each figure must have an informative caption.

Images, photographs, charts, and other visual materials must be of sufficient quality for publication. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material when required. All tables and figures must accurately represent the underlying data.

8. References and Citation Style

References must follow the APA style, 7th edition, unless the journal's official template specifies otherwise.

Authors should ensure that all in-text citations correspond to entries in the reference list and that bibliographic details are accurate.

The following reference requirements are recommended:

  • Include at least 25 relevant references for a standard research manuscript, unless the article type or editorial instructions justify a different number.

  • Aim for at least 50% of references to be drawn from reputable peer-reviewed international journals.

  • Prioritize current and relevant literature, particularly publications from the last 10 years, while retaining seminal works when necessary.

  • Keep self-citations relevant and proportionate; as a general guideline, no more than three self-citations should be used unless scientifically justified.

  • Use reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote to improve consistency and accuracy.

9. Manuscript Formatting

Authors must prepare manuscripts using Microsoft Word or a compatible word processor and follow the journal's official template.

The manuscript must use consistent headings, paragraph formatting, tables, figures, units of measurement, abbreviations, and citation formatting. Authors should check spelling, grammar, and layout before submission.

Specific requirements regarding font, margins, spacing, manuscript length, and file format must follow the current ISJ template and instructions provided in the online submission system.

10. Plagiarism and Originality

All submissions must be original and appropriately acknowledge the work of others. The journal may use similarity-checking software to identify possible plagiarism, text recycling, or inappropriate overlap with previously published work.

Similarity scores will be evaluated contextually; a score alone does not establish whether plagiarism has occurred. Suspected misconduct will be handled under the journal's publication ethics and research misconduct policies.

11. Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment to determine their relevance, completeness, originality, and basic scientific quality.

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening may be sent for double-blind peer review, in which author and reviewer identities are concealed from one another to the extent practicable. Editorial decisions may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.

Authors must respond to reviewer comments professionally and provide a clear account of revisions. The final publication decision rests with the editorial team.

12. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors must remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of their manuscripts. Artificial intelligence tools must not be listed as authors.

Where AI tools have been used in ways that materially contribute to manuscript preparation, data analysis, image generation, or other substantive research activities, authors must disclose their use in accordance with the journal's applicable AI policy. Authors must independently verify AI-generated information, references, and analytical outputs and must not submit fabricated citations or unverified results.

13. Submission Procedure

Manuscripts must be submitted through the official online submission system of Indonesia Sport Journal. Authors should register or sign in, complete the required metadata, upload the manuscript and supporting files, and follow the instructions displayed in the submission workflow.

Before submission, authors should verify that the manuscript meets the journal's scope, formatting, authorship, ethics, and reference requirements.

14. Final Checklist
