POST-PUBLICATION DISCUSSION POLICY

Indonesia Sport Journal

1. Policy Statement

Indonesia Sport Journal (ISJ) encourages constructive scholarly discussion after the publication of articles to promote scientific transparency, critical evaluation, and the continuous development of knowledge in sports science, physical education, sports coaching, exercise and health, and related disciplines.

Post-publication discussion provides an opportunity for readers, researchers, authors, and other members of the academic community to raise questions, offer alternative interpretations, identify possible errors, and discuss the implications of published research. All discussions must be conducted professionally, respectfully, and in accordance with academic ethics.

2. Scope of Discussion

Post-publication discussion may address:

  1. The validity, reliability, and interpretation of research findings.

  2. The appropriateness of research methods, statistical analyses, and data interpretation.

  3. The theoretical contributions and practical implications of published articles.

  4. The relevance of conclusions to the evidence presented.

  5. Possible errors, omissions, inconsistencies, or ethical concerns in published articles.

  6. Suggestions for further research and alternative scientific perspectives.

3. Submission of Comments and Responses

Readers who wish to discuss a published article may submit a scholarly comment or letter to the editor through the journal's designated submission channel.

Submissions should clearly identify the article being discussed, explain the scientific issue, provide relevant evidence or references where appropriate, and maintain a constructive academic tone.

Authors of the original article may be invited to respond to substantive comments. The editorial team may also invite independent experts to evaluate the scientific merit of the discussion when necessary.

4. Editorial Assessment

All post-publication comments and responses are subject to editorial assessment before publication. The editor will consider:

  • Relevance to the published article and the journal's scope.

  • Scientific merit and supporting evidence.

  • Clarity, accuracy, and academic significance.

  • Compliance with publication ethics and respectful scholarly communication.

  • Potential conflicts of interest.

The editor may request revisions, seek independent expert advice, accept or reject a submission, or decide that a matter should be handled through the journal's correction, expression of concern, or retraction procedures.

5. Authors' Right to Respond

When a comment raises substantive concerns about a published article, the original authors may be given a reasonable opportunity to respond. Responses should address the issues raised with evidence and appropriate references.

The journal aims to provide a fair opportunity for relevant scholarly perspectives to be considered. However, the publication of a comment or response is subject to editorial judgment and does not guarantee acceptance.

6. Publication and Accessibility

Accepted comments and responses may be published as separate scholarly contributions or in another format determined by the editorial team. Where appropriate, they will be linked to the original article to facilitate access and preserve the scholarly record.

Published discussions must be clearly identified and presented in a manner that enables readers to distinguish the original research from subsequent commentary.

7. Ethical Standards

All participants must adhere to principles of academic integrity, objectivity, fairness, and respect. Personal attacks, defamatory statements, unsupported allegations, discriminatory language, and the deliberate misrepresentation of research are not acceptable.

Any allegation of research misconduct or serious publication irregularity will be assessed confidentially and handled in accordance with the journal's publication ethics procedures and relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), where applicable.

8. Corrections and Retractions

Post-publication discussion does not automatically result in a correction or retraction. If credible evidence indicates that a published article contains a significant error or that its findings may be unreliable, the editorial team will assess the matter under the journal's Correction and Retraction Policy.

Appropriate action may include a correction, an expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the nature and seriousness of the issue.

9. Editorial Independence

The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for decisions concerning the publication of post-publication comments and responses. Decisions will be based on scholarly merit, relevance, ethical standards, and the journal's editorial policies, without inappropriate influence from authors, institutions, or other parties.

10. Policy Review

Indonesia Sport Journal may periodically review and update this policy to maintain transparency, support responsible scholarly communication, and align with recognized publication ethics standards.
